  1. Place the skewers on a tray, ensuring it is big enough to accommodate the amount of paddle sticks you need.
  2. Place a heavy object (such as cooling rack, another tray or a plate) to hold the skewers down to prevent floating and ensure proper immersion.
  3. Fill with water and allow skewers to soak, preferably overnight. For quick-cooking ingredients, 30 minutes to one hour of soaking should suffice.
  4. Cut the ingredients into similar sized pieces to obtain 1–1.5 in (2.5–3.8 cm) cubes. Ingredients cut in strips can be folded to achieve the desired result.
  5. Thread the cubes onto the skewers, making sure the ingredients cover the length of the stick uniformly, but also leaving small spaces in between for even cooking.
